As part of the Napier team, which partners with and supports the needs of a broad range of B2B technology-focused clients, you’ll take the lead in driving the success of client campaigns. Working alongside the Account Director, you will clearly understand your clients’ vision, objectives and requirements, translating quick but creative thinking into decisive action and outstanding results.

The Role

Our Account Managers (AMs) primarily manage media relations (PR) and marketing for a wide range of Napier clients, developing critical working relationships with editors and journalists, providing strategic advice, managing a wide range of marketing projects whilst ensuring set objectives are always met on time. AMs are responsible for all aspects of their clients’ projects from strategy and planning, through implementation and successful execution, to reporting and analysis.

They have a broad understanding across most marketing disciplines, and our ideal candidate will come loaded with expertise and a working knowledge of media relations. AMs must be able to confidently discuss and advise their clients on a variety of topics, including the best marketing strategies, which will differ from client to client; how to effectively allocate marketing budgets and suggest tactics to implement marketing plans. They will liaise with Directors or senior AMs, when additional specific expertise is required.

AMs have full responsibility for coordinating all activities on their accounts. This may include liaising with the creative design team, briefing writers on content required to ensure all actions / projects are completed to standard by their respective deadlines, and that all admin tasks, particularly reporting and billing, are completed effectively and efficiently. AMs also explore opportunities with clients to grow their business with Napier.

Experience

An AM’s expertise and demonstrable working knowledge in PR & Marketing, comes from having worked in a marketing manager role, either as the client or on the agency side. Experience of having worked on both sides would be a definite advantage.

Minimum experience required is a marketing degree (or equivalent) plus three years of managing PR & Marketing client accounts; or no formal qualification with four years of managing PR & Marketing client accounts.

Experience in other business functions is an advantage, as is specific knowledge and experience / understanding of the publishing industry.

Essential Skills

  • Broad understanding across all marketing disciplines, with the ability to acknowledge the trade-offs required, when allocating budgets to activities.
  • Strong background in at least one marketing discipline (e.g. media relations, advertising, direct marketing, etc) either within an in-house marketing department or an agency.
  • Confidence to explain rationale behind recommendations when presenting marketing strategies and tactics.
  • Well organised and able to manage multiple clients & projects simultaneously.
  • Able to accurately estimate time for most jobs and ensure these are delivered on budget (and in terms of cost).
  • Highly effective communicator and negotiator, particularly on the telephone, able to persuade clients, presenting opinions and facts. AMs must be able to sell additional services and projects to current and potential clients.
  • Ability to establish and nurture strong long-term relationships with clients, editors and journalists.
  • Confidence to provide strategic advice to senior marketing staff within clients, backed up by facts as necessary.
  • Strong numeric skills; able to budget and manage invoicing in multiple currencies.
  • Good PC skills, especially Excel; can demonstrate ability to accurately analyse data and present written results.
  • Proven ability to manage workload and meet deadlines, even when priorities are changed frequently by the client.

Desirable Skills (Ideally has three)

  • Experience of Marketing / PR in a business-to-business (B2B) environment
  • Specific knowledge or understanding of the publishing industry or media relations
  • Working knowledge or understanding of marketing automation
  • Proven ability to write good technical or compelling marketing content
  • Experience of nurturing and developing major accounts
  • Technical knowledge or interest in computing, electronics or a technology-driven industry
  • Ability to work effectively with journalists, especially in other countries
