Will in-house publications from distributors ever challenge mainstream electronics publications? My personal view is that this is unlikely to happen because of the inevitable compromises that will be made because of the intense commercial pressures within component distribution.

I was, however, impressed when I leant about Farnell’s plans for their internal publication called Tech First. Having hired well-known journalist Alistair Winning they are about to distribute the first issue of this magazine to an impressive 400,000 circulation, probably the largest circulation publication in the industry. I still don’t think that this title will change the publication landscape, but it certainly will prove an attractive way for suppliers to spend their co-op funding.
