Components in Electronics (CIE), which has held out with its short, fat “kingsize” format for a long time, is to switch to a conventional layout in a format that is slightly larger than A4. The change, probably makes sense, allowing the magazine to be optimised for the new postal charging regime in the UK, and we’re even promised heavier weight paper. The announcement also says that one of the reasons is to make the new format more readable on screen in the digital edition. Hummmmm…. so moving from a landscape to a portrait format is going to make the magazine more suited to viewing on a montor? Surely the reason for doing this is to make the spreads look nice, and make big advertisers happy?
