With all the hype, it’s easy to overestimate the use of Twitter, but recent research by the Pew Research Center tells a different story. The study found that only 8% of internet users in the USA (6% of the total population) uses Twitter.
So is Twitter over-hyped? Absolutely! But it remains an important channel, and is likely to grow in the near future. It would be interesting to see similar research in Europe – my guess would be that overall the usage is lower than in the USA, despite the excitement over the platform within our media and marketing bubble.
